Returning for its second year, on Friday 12 January 2024, Marlborough Highways hosted its Red Star Awards at the Stock Brook Country Club in Essex. The glamorous annual event recognises and rewards Marlborough’s people, and provides an opportunity to celebrate in the company’s shared success.
With almost 200 guests in attendance from every part of the organisation, there were eight main award categories spanning Superstar, Most Supportive, Best Manager, Motivator, Excellent Feedback, Keeping Us Safe, Rising Star, and Gang or Team of the Year. Each of those shortlisted had been nominated by a fellow member of staff, with hundreds of entries going to an impartial judging panel for review. There was also a special Directors Award category (Emerging Leader), with the winner and highly commended individual chosen by the leadership team for their dedication to excellence.
Hosted by the comedian Kevin McCarthy alongside Marlborough’s four directors, there was a fantastic atmosphere throughout, with a drinks reception and three-course meal followed by a live band.
This year’s award categories supported Marlborough’s new company values ‘We are bold. We have spirit. We know people matter. We take pride in everything we do.’ All nominations received needed to express how an employee or team supports the values, and the various award categories meant that people across the business were recognised and celebrated.
Matthew Revell, Marlborough’s Managing Director, said, “This year’s Red Star Awards were even bigger and better and were a powerful reminder that our greatest asset is our people. We celebrated not only individual achievement, but a collective success that is embodied through our new company values. I was hugely impressed by the quality of the awards submissions and am grateful to everyone who made a nomination. I would like to congratulate all of the winners and those who were highly commended; it is a testament to their talent and dedication. The wonderful evening was one that we will all remember with a sense of pride; I am already looking forward to next year’s event.”
