Barnet Crowned Champions of the London Boroughs Youth Cup!

Cromer Road Primary School, representing the London Borough of Barnet, have been crowned winners of the London Boroughs Youth Cup– a one-day, capital-wide football tournament sponsored by Marlborough Highways held in partnership with the Mayor of Barnet’s Charity, Barnet FC, and the Hive Foundation.

The tournament brought together 29 mixed teams of 10- and 11-year-olds from across London, each representing their borough with pride. It was a day filled with energy, and community spirit – and Cromer Road stood out with a winning performance that earned them the top spot.

The knockout stages were full of excitement, with some brilliant performances across the board. In the semi-finals, Barnet faced Sutton while Bromley took on Croydon. After two competitive matches, Barnet and Bromley emerged victorious to set up an exciting final. In front of a cheering crowd, Cromer Road Primary School clinched the win for Barnet and lifted the trophy winning 4-0.

The day also marked the culmination of several weeks of community engagement, with Marlborough’s Social Value & Sustainability Apprentice, Poppy Kennedy, visiting participating schools – including Cromer Road – in the run-up to the event to deliver footballs, answer questions, and build excitement ahead of the big day.

We were delighted to welcome the newly appointed Mayor of Harrow, Cllr Anjana Patel, to the event. The tournament was held at Barnet Football Club, which is located within the borough of Harrow – so it was a pleasure to host the Mayor at this special community celebration taking place in her borough.

We were also incredibly proud to welcome several borough dignitaries to the event, whose presence added a real sense of pride. These included the newly appointed Civic Mayor of Croydon, Cllr Chatterjee; the Speaker of Hackney, Cllr Sharon Patrick; the Mayor of Havering, Cllr Gerry O’Sullivan, accompanied by the Mayoress, Sue O’Sullivan; Councillor Sue Jameson of Haringey, and the Mayor of Kingston upon Thames, Cllr Noel Hadjimichael, joined by the Mayoress, Ms Carol Berliner.
