Marlborough Highways is delighted to announce it has launched a range of exciting operational apprenticeships, which complement the company’s existing office-based apprenticeships programme. The new recruits have the opportunity to work with front line crews, while gaining valuable experience from passionate and experienced managers and supervisors.
Suitable for school and college leavers, as well as those seeking a career change, Marlborough’s expanded apprenticeships scheme allows participants to advance their education while developing essential workplace skills. The fully paid placements see applicants work towards a Level 2 apprenticeship qualification, with support and guidance provided by expert mentors throughout.
The operational apprentices begin their placements by undertaking works across a variety of different departments, providing them with a solid overview and insight into the company’s extensive range of services. They then specialise in their chosen field, with options spanning surfacing, streetlighting, civil engineering, HGV driving and more.
The new 14-24 month long apprenticeships can be undertaken from either Marlborough’s office in the London Borough of Haringey, or from the organisation’s depot in Brentwood, Essex. The placements consist of block release to an external training provider, which is fully funded by the company. There is also extensive on-the-job and off-the-job in-house training delivered by Marlborough’s dedicated Learning & Development team.
On completion of the operational apprenticeships, participants complete an End Point Assessment (EPA), when their knowledge, skills, and behaviours learned throughout the programme are put to the test. The industry recognised EPA comprises a written exam, practical assessment, and a professional discussion, carried out by an external assessor.
The introduction of the new operational apprenticeships come in response to Marlborough’s continued growth and diversification, with the leadership team recognising the importance of developing a diverse and loyal workforce. Dedicated to attracting, training, and retaining, the next generation of highways professionals, Marlborough pays its apprentices at least the real Living Wage, provides them with a great working environment, and offers an industry leading benefits package, which includes a health cash plan, workplace pension, and an employee rewards programme.
Matthew Revell, Managing Director, Marlborough Highways, said, “I am thrilled to unveil Marlborough’s expanded apprenticeships scheme. Our new programme marks a significant step forward for us, and I am excited to welcome our first operational apprentices. Whether you are fresh out of school, seeking a change in job direction, or simply passionate about construction, this is a great opportunity for anyone looking to embark on a meaningful and enjoyable career in the highways industry. With a competitive salary and excellent benefits package, recruits can dive into the heart of our operations, working alongside talented crews and learning from the best.”
