Marlborough Highways operates the highways Term Maintenance Contract for Hackney Council. On 16 August 2023, their Surfacing and Traffic Management team had the pleasure of welcoming the Mayor of Hackney, Philip Glanville, and Hackney Council’s Group Engineer, Quaysoor Miah, to a site near London Fields.
During the morning works on Horton Road, the Mayor assisted with the repair of a pothole. Working alongside Marlborough’s expert operatives and under the guidance of a site Foreman, he participated in the reinstatement by laying binder and asphalt. He then helped with the compaction, by using a wacker plate and pedestrian roller, completing the process to a high standard.
The initiative allowed the Mayor to emphasise the importance of highway repairs, with over £5m being spent by Hackney Council on tackling potholes and maintaining local pavements and roads this year.
Mayor of Hackney, Philip Glanville said “we’ve maintained and now increased the funding we dedicate to keeping our pavements and roads in tip top shape. This helps prevent trip hazards, keeps pavements accessible, supports those who cycle and drive, and ensures Hackney’s neighbourhoods are some of the most well maintained and attractive in London. It was great to join the Council’s Highways team and Marlborough Highways repairing potholes in Hackney Central and to see first-hand how hard they work to keep the borough safe and moving.”
