Southend-on-Sea Borough Council announce 2021/22 Highways Investment Programme

The first roads and pavements set to benefit from increased investment in Southend-on-Sea have been revealed. The programme announcement comes after the 2021/22 budget was recently approved by the council to help the Borough protect frontline services, invest in major projects, and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Marlborough Highways will deliver the comprehensive £5m programme of works between April 2021 and March 2022. The investment aims to fix potholes, resurface and repair the boroughs worst roads and pavements including 30 roads and 31 pavements.

A further £5m programme for roads and pavements for 2021/22  is set to be discussed in June this year, meaning a potential investment of £10m.

The programmed works are part of an agreed £50m investment for local roads and pavements in Southend-on-Sea. Councillor Rob Woodley, the cabinet member for transport, capital and inward investment, stated he is “delighted to announce a significant and game-changing budget of up to £50m for highway improvements over the next five years. We are fully committed to providing good quality roads and pavements that residents and visitors want and need, and I am pleased that this is now starting to happen.”
