Marlborough Highways is proud to announce that it has been awarded the BSI ISO 27001 accreditation, a globally recognised standard for information security management. This milestone demonstrates Marlborough’s commitment to protecting data, maintaining robust security protocols, and adhering to the highest levels of compliance.
The ISO 27001, developed by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) and certified by the British Standards Institution (BSI), is the benchmark for effective information security management systems. Covering both digital and non-digital data, it ensures organisations can prevent data breaches, safeguard personal and sensitive information, and comply with regulatory frameworks.
Achieving this accreditation was the culmination of an in-depth and rigorous application process, reflecting the collaborative efforts of teams across Marlborough. It involved submitting extensive documentation, implementing enhanced security measures, and undergoing two comprehensive in-person audits. This included a full assessment of the company’s security management systems and interviews with key personnel, with exemplary levels of data security demonstrated.
To meet the stringent requirements of ISO 27001, Marlborough introduced a range of new systems and procedures, including Multi-Factor Authentication, to strengthen its data security infrastructure. It also established an Information Security Committee, which includes department heads from across the business and meets quarterly to oversee ongoing compliance and improvements.
The accreditation, which will be audited annually, has transformed Marlborough’s approach to data management, making processes more streamlined and ensuring employees are more responsible and accountable for their handling of data. By achieving ISO 27001, Marlborough can now better protect its own sensitive information, as well as the data entrusted to it by clients, suppliers, and other stakeholders. This commitment extends to all forms of data, from cloud computing, mobile files, and emails, to the way in which physical records are stored.
Will Blostone, Director, Marlborough Highways, said, “Achieving ISO 27001 not only strengthens our ability to protect information but also reinforces trust with our industry partners. It’s a reflection of our commitment to data management best practice and sets a benchmark for information security, ensuring we continue to meet the highest standards”.
