Earlier this year, Marlborough Highways trialled an Armorgard CuttingCube through local supplier North London Plant Hire (NLPH), for a pedestrianisation scheme which required a high volume of paving slabs cut to size.
The type of work involved, and the central location of the project, meant that it was important to try and protect the public from noise, dust and slurry. When cutting slabs, operatives would usually create a designated cutting area and so the CuttingCube was trialled to see if it could better protect the public and improve health and safety standards on site. The CuttingCube was also used as a possible solution to contain all water/slurry and protect freshly laid paving from overspilled slurry.
Marlborough worked with NLPH and Armorgard by trialling the CuttingCube on site, providing feedback to help improve the product to offer a better all-round solution. One of the key issues found was the sound absorption – it peaked at over 80dB from 6 metres away on the pedestrian side of barriers. This meant that the highest level of ear defenders as well as ear plugs were required. As a solution, new high-performance sound absorption panel linings have now been fitted in the CuttingCube which reduces noise by over 22% which makes it less hazardous for the user and others around.
