Marlborough Highways is an established Term Maintenance Contractor with more than 30 years of experience delivering highway maintenance, public realm, regeneration and infrastructure projects for local authorities across London and the South East.
As part of our commitment to clients, the business works hard to provide employment opportunities to people in the communities we represent. This not only helps draw a more diverse pool of people into the industry – it’s another way Marlborough are able to give something back.
Following the success of 2024’s operational apprenticeships programme, this year’s recruitment campaign aimed to reach as many potential candidates as possible. As such, the organisation held a series of insight sessions organised in close collaboration with the London boroughs of Hackney, Havering, Greenwich, Islington and Camden.
Led by Social Value Manager Nula Krawczynski, Resourcing Business Partner Tom Hatton and Learning and Development Manager Paul Haggerty, each of these sessions introduced candidates to the wider highways industry and our array of Highways Maintenance Skilled Operative Apprenticeship positions up for grabs.
The visits were also a good opportunity to discuss the structure of the programme, explore the benefits of working at Marlborough, answer people’s questions and offer candidates advice on their CVs.
Not long after these sessions, Marlborough’s team were left with a shortlist of applicants to invite to their two apprenticeship assessment days. Held at Tottenham Community Sports Centre, these events were a way to not only better get to know applicants, but also to evaluate their existing skills and overall enthusiasm for the roles up close.
Marlborough’s Managing Director Matthew Revell attended on the day, alongside HR Director Kate Chambers and Learning and Development Manager Paul Haggerty. Following a packed day of group tasks, one-to-one interviews and practical exercises, our team were left with a strong shortlist of candidates who showed real enthusiasm and potential.
Looking ahead, we are excited to welcome several brand-new apprentices to the business in the coming weeks and months. With a programme of structured learning, on-the-job training and expert guidance, our newest joiners will receive the support they need to thrive.
