Marlborough Highways is delighted to announce the purchase of six state-of-the-art solar traffic light systems, which have been deployed to sites across Essex and Southend. The new equipment is helping teams to operate more sustainably and more cost-effectively, by eliminating CO2 emissions and by removing the need for time consuming and expensive power supply changes. The initiative forms part of the company’s ambitious commitment to become Carbon Neutral by 2025, with Marlborough’s people passionate about the environment and the wellbeing of the planet.
It is estimated that the traffic lights will save nearly 7.5 tonnes in CO2 emissions over a two-year period. What’s more, approximately 12,000 fewer miles will be driven by Marlborough’s Traffic Management team over the same timeframe, because regular visits to change batteries are no longer required.
Nick Reading, Head of Performance, Sustainability & Social Value, Marlborough Highways, said, “I am enormously proud of the work that Marlborough has already achieved on its journey to carbon neutrality, with practical initiatives like the introduction of solar traffic lights making a real difference. The advanced technology not only reduces our carbon footprint but also enhances operational efficiency, demonstrating how environmentally conscious choices have benefits for both our company and the communities we serve.”
