Youths attending Southend’s Youth Service Summer Programme had an opportunity to learn all about Marlborough Highways and their work in the borough. Marlborough Highways’ Trainer, Chris Wood gave some examples of projects, which Marlborough have completed in Southend, relating it to local places the youths had visited such as the Belton Hills Steps.
The focus of the four-week Summer Programme was ‘Blues and Twos’ and Marlborough was able to demonstrate how they also provide emergency support on behalf of Southend Borough Council through traffic management services, sinkhole repairs and much more.
The children were very excited at the end of the session to see one of Marlborough’s grab lorries up close and to find out all about how it works and what it can do.
Jackie Byram, Senior Practitioner for the Youth Service at Southend Borough Council said “Thank you for bringing your team to visit us. I know the young people enjoyed the session and the opportunity to see one of your vehicles at work. Several of the group happily showed me their goodies and told me about the ‘grabber’ as they called your new vehicle over lunch, almost spitting pasta in their excitement to tell me all they had learned.”
