Overview
Marlborough has been Barking and Dagenham Council’s principal Term Maintenance Contractor since 2011. In 2012 they started the 1st phase of a £5million, 3-year urban regeneration program. The program involved constructing a new architecturally designed thoroughfare, installing 1,000m2+ of new paving, street lighting and drainage and planting an array of trees in centre of the busy town centre.
The Challenge
In 2012, a new Technical Skills Academy was built next to the Market Square. As part of this project, a new Asda superstore and extensive residential development had to be considered during the construction period, this meant extensive planning and managing of restricted site access. Key challenges included: maintaining access, coordinating works with the town centre market, managing pedestrian access 7 days a week and managing timely delivery of materials.

Marlborough’s proposal stood out.
